Let’s judge Robinson by six nations outcome

SCOTLAND'S defeat by Argentina on Saturday will have brought rugby supporters back to earth with a bump.

Andy Robinson has made a fine start to his career at Murrayfield, but his task in restoring the national team to serious contenders in the six nations and in the World Cup is very much in its infancy.

The 9-6 loss to the Pumas was a throwback to the performances we have seen in recent years.

Scotland look like they are going to take control of a game, but then let it slip from their grasp.

In Scotland we have a tendency to let our teams go from being heroes one week to hopeless the next.

In reality, the current Scottish rugby team is in neither camp.

Scotland are a solid, if unspectacular, outfit who punch above their weight at times.

Yet they often fail to meet expectations. In fact, they are just like the national football team.

The six nations is a couple of months away and Robinson will have a far better idea of the strengths and weaknesses of his players.

Judge him when the serious action starts next spring and don’t read too much into the last three results, regardless of whether they were victories or defeats.
