Kingussie bid for their 22nd national league title in 24 years when they face Kyles Athletic at Oban tomorrow, requiring a win to leapfrog Newtonmore to the championship.
A Kingussie slip would make 'More champions for the first time in 24 years and manager Norman MacArthur and his team will be looking for Kyles to do them a massive favour.
Kingussie have officially confirmed that Steve Borthwick will take over as manager next season from Jimmy Gow who aims to bow out on a high note tomorrow. Former player Russell Jones will be Steve's assistant.
Mossfield Park was in good shape yesterday and hopes are high that the marathon title race will finally be settled. “It's like a cup final for us for we know that a draw's no use to us, we have to take full points", says Gow.
“It's been a month since we played but the lads have stayed focused and trained hard, so we're in good shape. We know the match will be far from easy, but my players feel this is a great opportunity and we're ready to battle."
Kingussie's last outing was when they beat Newtonmore 3-1 on November 7 while Kyles were in action last weekend when they beat Bute 5-2. Ally MacLeod misses out through suspension for The Dell side with veteran Rory Fraser set to deputise in defence.
Kyles attacker Peter Currie is on a business trip to Switzerland and misses out as Athletic bid to complete their first ever Premier Division double over Kingussie.
The Camanachd directors will make a decision by December 12 on Kyles' appeal against being deducted two points for not fulfilling an instruction to play a ‘home' game at Beauly two weeks ago. The Argyll men know they can finish in third place if they have the points reinstated and if they draw with Kingussie.
The relegation issue will also be settled tomorrow if Bute fail to win at Inveraray. The islanders need to win their last two fixtures to overhaul Lochaber. Inveraray can only be relegated if they lose by eleven goals tomorrow which is hardly likely given their 4-0 win over Glenurquhart last weekend.
Bute have lost to Inveraray three times this season but did beat them 7-4 in the Camanachd Cup quarter-final in June.
The return of former international forward Russell MacKinlay, out for some 18 months, is timely for Inveraray.
If Bute fail to win and thus are doomed, their final fixture at Oban will not require to be played and the season could thus finally terminate tomorrow.
Fort William, meanwhile, have been told by two primary candidates, Dave Stafford and Willie Macdonald, that they are not interested in the first team managerial vacancy.
Stafford, who led the An Aird outfit to their only Premier title, has been sounded out but has asked not to be considered as he prefers to continue to run the second team.
Former international Macdonald, who played for the second team this season, has his admirers but has ruled himself out.
Fort hope to make an appointment within the next two weeks.
