CAITHNESS’ Emma Dunnett won the under-15 girls’ race at the East of Scotland cross-country championship at Livingston on Saturday.
The Thurso girl, who was representing Edinburgh AC, completed the 4.3km course in 16min 46sec, well ahead of the field. Eilidh Prise (Aberdeen AAC), the British modern triathlon champion, was third. Aberdeen AAC’s Chris Smith finished second behind Ali Hay (Central AC) in the men’s race. Hay led from the start and won after covering the 9.6km circuit in 31:54 with the north-east man 45sec behind.
Smith also helped Aberdeen AAC lift bronze medals behind Central AC in the team competition.Mark Haskett (16th), Ben Hukins (21st), James Joy (35th), Cameron Strachan (38th) and Darren Shinnie (52nd) were the other scorers.
Joy and Strachan also combined with Rory Leslie to take team silvers in the under-20 men’s championship.
Banchory Stonehaven AC’s Rhona Auckland won an individual bronze medal behind Halina Rees (Fife) and Louisa Stewart (Edinburgh) in the under-17 girls’ race in which the Aberdeen AAC trio of Ellie Buchan (8th), Kerry Prise (10th) and Katie Bain (17th) won team silver behind Edinburgh AC.
There was further success for Banchory Stonehaven AC in the under-15 boys’ race in which Michael Ferguson finished third behind Dale Colley (Falkirk) and Jamie Crowe (Dundee Hawkhill).
Ben Livesey won the men’s race in the third round of the Speyside Runner North District cross-country league at Keith on Saturday. The title-holder completed the six mile course in 33:16 ahead of veteran Alan Reid (Peterhead).
Livesey also led Forres Harriers to top spot in the team competition with backing from Paul Rogan (third), Kyle Greig (fourth) and Graeme Bartlett (seventh).
Melissa Whyte (Inverness Harriers) got the better of Scottish schools international Gemma Cormack (Moray Road Runners) to win the women’s race in which Sheila Gollan (fourth) and Julie Wilson (fifth) completed the scoring for the winning Inverness Harriers team. Ross Gollan (East Sutherland) maintained his 100% league record when winning the under-13 boys’ race
Ross Fulton (Aberdeen AAC) defeated Hugo Haller-Shannon (Kings Tri Club) and veteran John Matheson (Metro Aberdeen) to win the third round in the Aberdeen Proms 3km winter road race series. Gillian Strachan (Fraserburgh Running Club) finished ahead of Ali Hughes (Metro Aberdeen) and Suzanne Matonti (Lothian Running Club) to win the women’s race.
