Brewery’s mulled beer is a festive treat
Rare concoction being served up to Activity centre visitors

A DEESIDE activity centre is getting visitors in a festive mood by serving up mulled beer.
The Deeside Activity Park, near Aboyne, is home to the Deeside Brewery which has created the rare concoction.
Rob James, who runs the brewery, said: “It’s only available over two days. It’s based on an old recipe called lamb’s wool.
“It’s basically all the Christmas spices, roast apples and it’s served warmed.
“A dark malty beer is used as the base which is complemented by the sweet spices that go in it.
“It used to be reasonably common hundreds of years ago but has been overtaken by wine and the like. It’s just really a special thing for Christmas.”
He added it was unusual, but that the staff who had tasted it had enjoyed it.
Mr James said he had always known mulled beer existed and after some internet research tracked down the old recipe.
The centre welcomed visitors to its Solstice Shop-Fest last night. It will open its doors again today between 11am and 3pm when the beer will be served.
“We recommend that visitors car share as we’ll have a designated bar area,” Mr James said. “This is a fantastic shopping opportunity for men – where better to do your Christmas shopping than in a bar?”
The event has Deeside Brewery beers for sale, Deeside Activity Park gifts, Cairnton Aberdeen Angus beef, a toy stall, a book stall, Santa's grotto and face painting.
