Skye unhappy with midweek fixtures ruling

SKYE Camanachd have written to shinty's ruling body to lodge an official objection to the introduction of midweek cup fixtures for the first time in 2010.

A month ago, the Caman-achd Association wrote to all clubs to state that his- toric new rules would see the association schedule cup matches during the week.

That idea was to avoid the fixture congestion which has seen the summer season run into the depths of winter for the past few years.

However, Skye feel the new rules will hit them in the pocket, with their island location meaning all their ties will be played away from home.

The regulations state that, should a club be drawn against a club more than 70 miles away, the tie will be played at a neutral venue.

This effectively means all Skye's ‘home' ties will be played on the mainland, unless they draw Kinlochshiel and Lochcarron.

Travel costs will soar and takings at the clubhouse will also freeze, leading to a double financial headache.

Yesterday the Camanachd Association confirmed it had received a letter from Skye and stated the matter will be discussed at the next board meeting.
