PETERHEAD last night signed Aberdeen defender Jonathan Crawford on loan.

The 19-year-old, who made his first start for the first team in the 3-0 win at Hamilton in August, will spend the next month at Balmoor.

Peterhead manager Neale Cooper said: “I’m delighted to get Jonathan on board. It’s not often you get a player with first-team experience on loan and we were needing to strengthen the defence with Callum McDonald out injured.

“Jonathan is in for a month, but if it goes well then maybe we will be able to extend it until the end of the season.”

Crawford is in line to make his debut for the club next weekend at Arbroath after today’s game at Stirling was postponed.

Cooper, who is also waiting to give Barry Wilson his first game despite the player joining a month ago, hopes to add to his squad before the transfer window closes.

He said: “We need cover up front now John Stewart has joined Clyde and another centre half on board if possible.

“With Barry joining us we have strengthened the midfield and I’m talking to a few clubs There’s still a couple of weeks to go but I expect some movement.”
