Law is forced to sit out Jones Cup tournament

DOUBLE Scottish champion David Law has been ruled out of the Jones Cup international golf tournament in Georgia next month.
The most serious of the injuries he received during an Aberdeen city centre assault last November was a fractured knuckle on his left hand and the injury needs more time to heal.
Law said: “After taking advice from my physio and a hand specialist, the decision was made that I would not play in the Jones Cup (February 4 to 6) and I should target the Portuguese amateur (February 18 to 21) as my first tournament of the season. I will still travel to the US to begin some light practice and do some work with national coach Ian Rae and psycholo-gist Richard Cox.
“I am disappointed to miss a tournament like the Jones Cup but delighted that I can travel with the Scotland team to America."
Law, whose home club is Aberdeen's Hazlehead, will be 19 in May. His target is to make the GB&I Walker Cup team for the September 2011 match against the United States at the Royal Aberdeen club – and then turn professional.
Canadian golfer Mike Weir wants to prove life does begin at 40 this year, starting with the five-round Bob Hope Classic at La Quinta, California, today.
Weir views 2010 as an important year and not just because he will celebrate his 40th birthday in May.
He has been inducted into the Canadian golf hall of fame and Weir wants to prove he is still a serious contender. He said: “I believe my best golf is ahead of me."
