A DRUGS minder has been jailed for 44 months after Grampian Police found a cache of cocaine and heroin in Aberdeen and replaced it with sugar.
Peter Dawber, 25, panicked and fled after he discovered the switch before he was tackled and detained by Grampian Police officers.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard the drugs seized from the find in Aberdeen had the potential to be worth almost £250,000 on the streets.
Defence counsel Mike Smart said the drugs found in the stash in Aberdeen were not Dawber’s and his role had been to keep them for a period before handing them back.
He said unemployed Dawber ran up a £3,000 debt after he began taking cocaine daily which led to his involvement in the offence.
Judge Lord Matthews said it was “tragic” when people who were otherwise law-abiding became involved in such behaviour.
Dawber, whose address was given as 10 Daun Walk, Kemnay, earlier admitted being involved in the supply of both cocaine and heroin between July 20 and 31 last year at Hazledene Road, in Aberdeen.
A total of 2.8 kilos of cocaine were recovered, along with 430g of heroin and more than £9,000 in cash from the Aberdeen haul.
