SINGERS, dancers and musicians from a north-east school will cross the Irish Sea at the weekend to make a Celtic Connection with students on the Emerald Isle.

Peterhead Academy pupils will showcase their own brand of traditional Scottish entertainment during a six-day exchange trip to Ireland.

They will team up with teenagers from St Tiernan’s Community School in Dublin to perform a series of concerts.

The Blue Toon party will be led by the academy’s principal music teacher, Elaine Waters.

The trip to Ireland is part of an east-west schools partnership, formed as part of the Good Friday agreement, and is aimed at fostering closer links between schools in the UK and the Irish Republic.

Academy deputy head teacher Michael Doig said: “This will be our fifth visit to Dublin since 2002 and we always receive a very warm welcome there.

“The Scottish and Irish students always get along very well and we are all looking forward to going back.”

Both schools are founder members of the European Schools Association, which has a membership of 11 from throughout Europe.
