A CHARITY which supports disabled people in the north-east was celebrating last night after it was pledged £10,000 from the National Lottery.
Disabled Persons Housing Service Aberdeenshire (DPHSA), based at Peterhead, will use the money to help promote the group’s service across the region by developing a new website.
First Minister Alex Salmond, who is also MP for Banff and Buchan, has written to the charity congratulating them on the donation, which came from the National Lottery’s Awards for All fund. He stated in his letter: “The fact that the lottery chose to award you this grant is a testament to the merit of your organisation’s marketing plan. I know this funding will prove invaluable to the Disabled Persons Housing Service and the local community.”
Anne Mair, development manager at the charity, which is based at Carters Close, Peterhead, said she was “delighted” with the funding and what it meant for the charity. “This funding means so much to DPHSA and will mean that we will be able to help more people with disabilities with their housing needs. It has been a crucial step for the future of the charity and will make us more sustainable as an organisation. We are absolutely delighted.”
She added that as well as the website the money will also be used to carry out market research on the needs of past and present users of the charity.
DPHSA currently helps more than 50 people every year who have disabilities. It provides information and advice to people with housing issues or problems.
