Businesses share tips on beating post-recession blues

Organisations discuss marketing and staff motivation ideas at Peterhead Business Forum event

BUCHAN businesses united last night to share tips on riding out the effects of the recession.

It was organised by Peterhead Business Forum (PBF) and enabled firms to look at ways of attracting new customers, motivating staff and marketing their product.

About 30 people in and around Peterhead attended the free event at the town’s Waterside Inn.

PBF chairman John Pascoe said he hoped company bosses would have left with some “fresh ideas” for improving the fortunes of their companies.

“We’re all feeling it just now and Peterhead and the surrounding area is no different,” he added.

“The evening was mainly a networking event allowing local business owners to meet each other, but also encouraging them to go away with some fresh ideas for marketing their product or service.”

Three guest speakers also attended, sharing years of business experience.

David Morgan owns one of the biggest beam trawlers in Europe which he contracts to the oil and gas industry. He addressed the audience on the importance of brand identity.

Eugenie Verney, a marketing and public relations consultant, gave tips on how companies can improve their relationships with customers by harnessing the power of the internet.

Stephen Bruce, who formed the Peterhead branch of running club JogScotland which attracts hundreds of people each week, spoke about motivation.

Mr Pascoe added: “It’s a difficult time for everyone and we hope the event inspired people with something we can go away and implement.”
