Second gold success for happy Armitage

ABERDEEN AAC's Sonia Armitage won her second gold medal of the world masters indoor track and field championships at Kamloops, Canada, on Saturday.

The Monymusk athlete, who won the over-45 age group 800 metres on Wednesday, added the 1,500m crown with a confident front-running performance.

Armitage pulled away from the main group over the first couple of laps, before going on to win by more than two seconds in 4min 56.34sec.

Aberdeen AAC's Scottish international Nicola Gauld, in her first race for 15 months, won the Proms 3k at Aberdeen beach.

The two-times national 1,500m champion, who hopes to compete for Scotland in this year's Commonwealth Games, clocked 10:01 to finish 30sec ahead of the field.

Cameron Strachan(Aberdeen AAC) won the men's Proms race in 9:33.

Lisa Finlay (Dumfries Running Club) defeated a field of 311 to win yesterday's Smokies women's 10 mile road race at Arbroath.

Finlay recorded 63:36 to finish 70sec clear.

Scottish international Ben Livesey (Forres Harriers) warmed up for next weekend's Inverness half marathon by winning yesterday's Nairn 10k in a personal best 31:10.
