THE Duke of Rothesay has donated a rare prize to a north-east children’s charity.

A 10-person tour of Birkhall gardens on Royal Deeside and a signed gardening book have been gifted to the Archie Foundation to auction at its upcoming ball.

Ball organiser and charity trustee Jenny Gow said: “The money raised will go toward a local project – making the G-Med (Grampian Out-of-Hours Medical Service) treatment room and waiting area at Aboyne Hospital more child-friendly, a project being mirrored by Archie at all the G-Med centres throughout Grampian.

“The donation of the gardening book and tour of Birkhall from the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay is very much appreciated and will be an exciting addition to the auction.

“The tour is for up to 10 people and will be taken at the end of July, beginning of August when the garden is at its best.”

All funds raised will go to the foundation, which is the official charity of the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and community-based child health throughout Grampian, Orkney and Shetland.

This year will be the third time the Archie Ball has been held at Ballater. All 110 tickets for the event, in Victoria Hall on March 20, have sold out.

As well as the donation from Prince Charles, a day of hind stalking at Mar Lodge, a Janice McIlwain original painting, one night’s bed and breakfast at Gleneagles Hotel, and a framed Willie Forbes print, will also feature in the auction.

The signed gardening book will be on display at the Raemoir Garden Centre at Banchory.
