Caley Thistle midfielder Richie Foran will miss the next two matches through suspension, but is confident that fellow Dubliner Adam Rooney can keep scoring to maintain the Highland club’s push for a return to the Premier League.
Rooney netted his second hat-trick of the season in Tuesday’s home victory against Queen of the South to move his season’s tally to 17 goals.
Inverness moved to second in the First Division table, six points behind leaders Dundee, and Foran has been impressed by Rooney’s prolific form in front of goal.
Foran misses the games against Morton and Ross County, but has backed Rooney to excel.
Foran said: “I think Adam will go on and score at least another 10 goals the way we are playing.
“The attacking four seem to be reading each other really well.
“Whether it is Eric Odhiambo or Dani Sanchez playing alongside Adam, Jonny Hayes and me.
“We have a very good understanding and I am delighted that Adam is getting the goals.
Foran has become adept at creating the scoring chances.
He added: “I have more assists now than I do goals. It is great to be involved and to see other people scoring is nearly as good as scoring myself.”
Foran believes Rooney can only improve .
He said : “Adam is only 21 and he has a great future in the game.
“He is a goalscorer and if you give him any balls around the 18-yard box teams are in trouble. Centre halves hate playing against him as he is strong, quick and always making runs.
“If he gets the right service he will score.
“He is a workhorse, he keeps his head down and is not cocky. I think he could play at a higher level.
“We have forgotten about the last couple of games against Ayr and Dundee and where we could have been in the table if we had won. They are in the past now.
“We are on a great run, 10 games unbeaten. We are flying in the league.
“We knew we were going to turn it round after Christmas.
“It is the best form we have shown all season but we have done nothing yet.”
