United would love cup revenge

DUNDEE United winger Jeno Myrie-Williams reckons there could be a ghoulish interest in Sunday’s Scottish Cup clash between the Arabs and Rangers – as United were hit for seven when the teams last met.

But the Englishman is certain it will not happen again.

Peter Houston has guided United to eight wins from their last 12 matches and has them sitting in third place in the SPL.

Myrie-Williams said: “Will we have a point to prove after what happened last time? Definitely. We are ready and now we are going to show we are ready.

“It was a sore one. We can’t lie and say it didn’t affect us, losing 7-1. We believe we are a big team and we want to show it. But we bounced back after Ibrox and we are ready for this.

“The team is mentally in a different place. We are in a much stronger place than we were when Craig Levein left. It’s definitely the worst I have felt in football. All the players were down for days after it happened but it’s about bouncing back and we have managed to.

“Maybe Rangers will be thinking they put seven past us the last time and they are going to do it again. But we are going into the game quietly confident and hoping we can rectify what happened.”

The winger joined United from Bristol City in the summer after years of scrabbling around in the English leagues on loan to various clubs.

He finally feels settled at Tannadice and for the first time in his career is viewing cup competition as a likely source of silverware.

He said: “I did well in the FA Cup. At Bristol we got to the fifth round and played Middlesbrough, but we never got as far as this. It would be great to get to a cup final and play at Hampden. his game is one of the biggest games of my career and I’m looking forward to it.”
