A MORAY school pupil has been named Scotland’s International Student of the Year in a competition run by the British Council.

Tasha Keswani, who is studying at Gordonstoun School, won the title for her inspiring account of life as a pupil in the UK.

Competition entrants had to write a personal “letter home” detailing their experiences in the UK.

Tasha, who travelled to Scotland from India just over a year ago, impressed judges with a thank-you letter to her grandfather, who supported her decision to study in the UK “through thick and thin” but died just a week before she moved. In the letter, she said her proudest achievements since coming to Scotland included fulfilling an 11-year dream to record her own music CDs and going to Skye on a sailing expedition.

Dreams

She wrote that since travelling to Scotland she “realised her dreams are no longer just dreams, but a reality” and that she now felt “like a butterfly metamorphosed from a caterpillar”.

Gordonstoun headmaster Mark Pyper said: ““Tasha is a credit to Gordonstoun and her optimistic and zestful approach to life is an inspiration to us all.”

Tasha praised her school for making her studies in Scotland so life-changing.

She said: “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity I have been given and believe that Gordonstoun has truly helped me to realise the dreams that I previously thought were unreachable.”

Tasha will now go on to compete for the title of UK International Student of the year in London in April.
