Kingussie manager Steve Borthwick dropped his son and his nephew from their 6-0 Camanachd Cup win at Strathglass because the two played football 48 hours before the tie.
Steve’s son Ryan, 17, and nephew, Thomas, 16, have been disciplined.
Steve said: “It was a difficult situation, but I had to stick by my beliefs and I’ve no regrets. Other people have been disciplined in past years for the same thing, so I couldn’t make an exception for my family.
“They’re young and didn’t know about the club policy, so they played for Kingussie FC on Thursday night. They’re disappointed, but they’ll learn from the incident and put it behind them.”
Even with a reshuffle, Kingussie cruised, with four goals from Ronald Ross and one apiece from Craig Dawson and veteran Rory Fraser – making his first senior outing of the campaign.
RunRig musician Calum MacDonald, whose son Donald plays for Caberfeidh, will make the Camanachd quarter-final draw today with Scotland manager Drew MacNeil.
Kingussie, who have not won the cup for four years, are looking for better luck.
Steve Borthwick added: “We’ve not had a home draw in any of the cups this season and, as the semis are on neutral ground, this is our last chance to get one.”
Skye are the only non-Premier side going in to the draw after showing their character to beat Kilmallie 3-2 after extra time at Portree. They led 2-1 through Ian Morrison and Sorley MacDonald to a Donald Lamont goal when, in 77 minutes, Skye’s Jamie MacDonald was sent off.
Liam MacDonald equalised for the visitors in 86 minutes but the depleted Skeanachs won it through a superb finish from Alan Palmer in 104 minutes. None of the Premier sides will fancy visiting unbeaten Skye.
Fort William’s bid for a fourth successive cup triumph was almost derailed by Kinlochshiel. Keith MacRae and Neil Fraser put Shiel two up and though Bryan Simpson pulled one back, Fraser made it 3-1 early in the second half to set alarm bells ringing for the holders.
But goals from John Macdonald, Victor Smith and Gary Innes turned things around – then Shiel’s John MacRae was sent off in 75 minutes.
Smith grabbed his second with a late clincher to make it 5-3 for relieved Fort.
Glenurquhart needed extra time to beat Lovat 2-1 in the all-Premier duel at Blairbeg Park. Eddie Tembo fired Glen ahead but a James MacPherson penalty levelled it at half-time. In the 110th minute, Stuart Reid’s winner took Glen to the last eight.
It was tighter still at Kyles Athletic where last year’s runners-up beat Bute 3-2 in a penalty shootout after the teams had drawn 1-1 after two hours of action.
Rob Walker put Bute ahead in 85 minutes but Roddy MacDonald was the home hero with a 90th minute equaliser to take the tie to extra time.
Drew MacDonald (2), Evan Menzies (2) and Dave Cheyne netted as Newtonmore cantered to a 5-1 home win against Glenorchy, who netted through Duncan Smith.
Oban Camanachd notched a 5-0 home win against Glasgow Mid Argyll, with goals from Aidan MacIntyre (2), Iain Macmillan, Jonathan Will and Lorne Dickie.
Inveraray notched a 7-3 win against Lochaber with goals from Russell MacKinlay (2), Ruaridh Graham, Euan McMurdo, Grant Griffin, Chris Crawford and Neil Andrews while the visitors netted through Ben Delaney, Sean Nicolson and Andrew MacDonald.
In the Sutherland Cup, Kevin Thain and Rory Borthwick fired four goals each in Kingussie’s 8-0 win against Lochaber, but they were topped by Danny Stewart who hit five as Fort beat Glasgow Mid Argyll 11-0.
But Glenurquhart needed extra time to win 3-1 at Aberdeen University, with a Gregor McCormack double while Skye just squeezed through 1-0 at home to Col Glen.
Beauly lost 4-1 at Inveraray but Lovat won 3-0 at Kinlochshiel.
