Rally braves the rain

Published: 16/06/2010

YET another rainy day threatened to ruin a north-east motor show at the weekend, but the 53rd Kildrummy Vintage Rally still attracted about 200 visitors to the Deeside Activity Park at Dess, Aberdeenshire.

Despite the downpour, nearly 50 veteran, vintage and classic vehicles entered, taking part in an hour-long road run around the countryside surrounding the venue before being judged in a concours competition.

Honorary president James Hird said: “We are really quite surprised at the amount of cars that actually turned up. There have been quite a few visitors.”

The event was held at Deeside Activity Park for the third year, having previously taken place at Kildrummy Castle and Leith Hall, near Huntly.

Activity park owner Ken Howie said that, despite there not being as many cars are normal, there was a “nice crowd of folk”.

The park was also host to Grampian Country Fair’s Kart Racing Grand Prix, with teams from local companies and an Emmerdale team taking part.

Now the PERFECT spot for this event would be Union Terrace Gardens.
