A Moray student is preparing for a move to London after being accepted into a prestigious art school.
Emma Cowie, 21, who is originally from Buckie, has secured one of only nine places on the two-year mixed-media master’s course at the Royal College of Art, Piccadilly, London.
The Gray’s School of Art student graduates next month with first-class honours in textiles and surface design.
She found out her degree result only on Friday, and said she has been doing “a lot of celebrating” since.
She said: “I’m just thrilled – it’s been a difficult four years, but a really fun time too.
“There was a lot of pressure on, as I knew I had to get at least a 2:2 to get on to the masters.”
Miss Cowie and her classmates are currently displaying their artwork at their degree show, at Gray’s School of Art, Garthdee, Aberdeen.
Her work is heavily influenced by the world of sport, particularly the 2010 World Cup and 2012 Olympic Games.
She said: “I have always been inspired by the drama and passion displayed at this international level.”
Miss Cowie added that her parents, Lesley and John Cowie, of Doran Drive, Buckie, were “very proud”.
She said: “If it wasn’t for their support I wouldn’t have been able to get where I am today.”
Charlie Hackett, textiles and fashion tutor at Gray’s School of Art, said: “The department is incredibly proud of Emma.”
Miss Cowie and her boyfriend, Shaun Mcintosh, are moving to London in time for the start of her course in October. She is applying for sponsorship to support her studies.
The Royal College of Art is well-known for having trained such influential artists as Tracey Emin and Christopher Bailey.
