Youngsters take part in outdoor pursuits at Scots jamborette

SCOUTS from throughout the world have gathered in Perthshire for the Scottish International Patrol Jamborette.
About 1,250 scouts and adult volunteers from 19 countries including Canada, America and Japan have gathered for the jamborette, which is being held at Blair Castle. Namibian scouts are attending the event for the first time.
The event will see scouts aged from 13 to 17 take part in activities including abseiling, mountain biking and kayaking. The visiting scouts will also get the chance to learn about the Scottish way of life as they enjoy a home-stay with a local family after the event.
Camp chief John Kennedy said: “It’s great to have so many young people and adults of all nationalities taking part in the jamborette. There’s a real spread of people from around the world and it’s particularly pleasing to have the Namibian contingent here for the first time.
“It’s incredible that so many young people who have never met before and who come from such diverse backgrounds can come together so quickly to become friends and experience some great adventurous activities together.”
Atholl Estates general manager Andrew Bruce Wooton added: “We are delighted to support the scouts in Scotland. We have supported the international jamboree on an annual basis for many years now and feel that the benefits they offer youngsters are invaluable.”
The Scottish International Patrol Jamborette, which is now in its 32nd year, runs until Saturday.
