Kingussie's Lewis Munro and Fort William's Drew Ferguson are in fitness races to be fit in time for the Camanachd Cup final on September 18.
Munro, out for three months after a fractured shinbone became infected, made his comeback in the second team on Saturday, but has no chance of featuring in this weekend's MacAulay Cup final against Inveraray at Oban.
Manager Steve Borthwick said: “This final is just too soon as Lewis needs a proper sharpness build-up. I'd love to have him for the Camanachd final, but it will be touch and go."
Fort flier Ferguson will go to hospital in Inverness this week to have the plaster off an ankle injury and the wound reassessed.
“We'll have a better idea once Drew sees the specialist," said manager Peter MacIntyre.
“He's a key player both for the final and the title run-in."
MacIntyre admitted to being taken aback at bottom side Glasgow Mid Argyll fielding a 6-3-2 formation in Saturday's Premier game at An Aird. It was clearly their response to losing 14-0 at home to Fort.
“In all my time in the game, I've never seen a team start with six defenders and it caused us problems," said MacIntyre. “By the end, I'd taken off defenders and we had six forward running at six defenders, so it was pretty congested."
Victor Smith gave Fort an early lead, but Innes Macmillan made it 1-1 at half-time. With 20 minutes to go James Clark made the breakthrough, then Gary Innes struck two goals before Clark completed a 5-1 win which maintains Fort's title drive.
Newtonmore stay top with Danny MacRae hitting a double and Jamie Robinson also netting in their 3-1 home win over Bute, who counted through Hector Whitelaw.
Kingussie stay on the trail of Newtonmore and Fort after a hard fought 1-0 win over Oban Camanachd at the Dell. Ronald Ross was a late call off with a knee problem and Barry Dallas fired the only goal in 35 minutes.
Relegation-threatened Oban hit the woodwork twice in a gallant display, but now need to make the most of three home games out of their four remaining fixtures if they are to stay up.
Glenurquhart moved six points clear of Oban by coming from 2-0 down to grab a 2-2 with third-placed Inveraray at Blairbeg Park.
Grant Griffin's double put the Argyll men in control, but Neale Reid reduced the leeway just before half-time, then grabbed the equaliser in the first minute of the second half.
Michael Delaney's Lochaber side moved a point clear at the top of the North First Division after a 4-1 home win over Skye.
Donald MacRae and Sean Nicolson had doubles for the Spean Bridge side with Sorley MacDonald replying for the islanders, who are now out of the reckoning.
Kinlochshiel drop from first equal to third place after a 3-3 derby draw at Lochcarron.
Kilmallie moved in to second spot with an 11-0 demolition of bottom club Strathglass at Canal Park. There were hat-tricks for John Stewart and Peter MacIntyre plus goals from Martin Stewart, Fraser Mathie, Liam MacDonald, Donald Lamont and Michael Rodger.
The spirited Inverness revival continue with a 1-1 draw at Beauly, Gordon Gray hitting the opener and Sean Stewart netting the home equaliser.
