BANCHORY golfer James Byrne, Ross Kellett and Michael Stewart will defend Scotland’s world amateur team title in Argentina in October.
The tartan trio of Callum Macaulay, Wallace Booth and Gavin Dear made history in Australia in 2008 when they romped to a nine-shot win and brought the Eisenhower Trophy back home for the first time.
Now it is up to Byrne, Kellett and national champion Stewart to keep Scottish amateur golf on top of the world in Buenos Aires.
SGU head coach Ian Rae said: “Winning the Eisenhower Trophy was a wonderful achievement for Scotland and really helped raise the profile of amateur golf in this country.
“We have another strong team and I know the players have the belief that they can bring the trophy back to Scotland again.”
The Scots will travel to Sao Paulo, Brazil, in mid-October to begin their preparations. The championship takes place from October 28 to 31.
