A COMMUNITY group is inviting people who have been involved with an Aberdeenshire hall over the decades to a dance to celebrate its half-centenary.

Fetternear Hall opened 50 years ago yesterday after a major fundraising effort by the community.

It has not always stood at its current location near Kemnay however, or even been in Aberdeenshire. The building started out as a community facility for Perthshire forest workers, before the Fetternear and Blairdaff community bought it for £5,000 and transported it north.

Hall chairman Mike Simon, of Sunnybrae, Fetternear, said the community held a big dance to mark its opening, so it seemed fitting to stage another shindig to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

“We’re hoping that we get as many of the local community together as possible – that’s what it’s all about. We would like people who were involved all those years ago or their descendants to come along too,” he added.

The stovie dance will take place on September 18. Entry costs £8 for adults or £4 for children. For more information visit www.fetternearhall.co.uk or call Mr Simon on 07870 795011.
