Long-distance runner on track to target new world record

A DEDICATED long-distance runner passed through Inverness yesterday, on track to complete a remarkable feat.
When Neil O'Maonaigh-Lennon, 30, from Harrow left his accommodation in the city’s Queensgate, he was embarking on his 40th marathon in 40 days.
But his overall goal is to complete 105 of the 26-mile plus runs in 105 days to raise money for Cancer Research UK and to have a crack at setting a new world record. He started in Brighton on September 10 and, after reaching Tain last night, plans to continue his anti-clockwise run all around the coast of Scotland and then eventually work his way back to Brighton by day 105.
The English teacher said yesterday: “Today is the big 40, so it is an important milestone. I have had some injury, but am going quite well. I had to buy some thermal running gear in Inverness though as it has turned quite cold.
“I think the north of Scotland sections will be among the most challenging.”
Neil’s inspiration comes from family members who have suffered from cancer and runner Terry Fox who ran across Canada on one leg in 1980 and in doing so became a hero for millions.
Two friends are providing motorised support, Rick Alleyne and Sam Aynsley.
