A swing away from fame

THIRTEEN years ago this week, Inverallochy’s Steven Young came agonisingly close to winning a place on the US PGA Tour.

At the final qualifying school in Palm Springs, California, Young missed out by just one stroke after 108 holes. The Buchan professional was 20 at the time.

What might have been? A flight of fancy, perhaps, but as a junior golfer Young had the best record achieved by any Scottish teenager.
