Future of game to be discussed

THE Camanachd Association, shinty’s governing body, has arranged a six-venue series of meetings to draw up a new three-year plan.

The target is to draw up a strategic plan which will set the priority for allocation of finance through to the end of 2014.

Clubs, associations and the wider membership are to be asked for answers on where shinty should be by that time, how the game’s strengths can be deve-loped and its weaknesses addressed.

President elect Archie Robertson, who played for Lovat and Glasgow Mid Argyll, will attend all the meetings which begin at the Pond Hotel, Glasgow, on January 18 and finish at the Palace Hotel, Inverness on February 3.

The other meetings are at Kyle Hotel, Kyle of Lochalsh on January 18, George Hotel, Inveraray, January 25, Alexandra Hotel, Fort William, January 27 and Colintraive Hotel on February 1.

Interested parties will also be able to contribute by e-mail and letter as the Camanachd Association uses the meetings to produce a final version of the plan for approval by the annual meeting in April.

Robertson succeeds Duncan Cameron as president at the annual meeting but is working closely with him in the drive to come forward with an enhanced vision for shinty’s future.

Meanwhile, the association, supported by Highland Council, is advertising for a new Highland shinty development officer to succeed Ronald Ross, who has taken up the new post of national development officer and who received an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list.
