Bid to halt football troubles

A police initiative has been launched to tackle sectarianism as well as an increase in the use of smoke canisters and flares at Pittodrie.

Grampian Police say they want to tackle unacceptable behaviour at the Aberdeen Football Club matches.

Sergeant Salter Watson, from police events planning, said: “At the fixture between Aberdeen and Celtic on Tuesday, Grampian Police deployed a number of officers as part of an unacceptable behaviour team, specifically tasked to monitor, identify, arrest and report individuals carrying out such conduct both inside and outside the stadium.
