Donald Trump has urged businesses and the people of the north-east to go out and bring the Ryder Cup to his Scottish golf resort.
The US billionaire flew into Aberdeen in his new £60million jet yesterday to see progress on what he says will be the greatest course in the world at the Menie Estate, north of the city.
Last night he confirmed that the championship links, which he will dedicate to his Lewis-born mother, the late Mary McLeod, will open on July 1 next year.
And after walking all 18 holes of the course, Mr Trump said that he believed “everything will be in place” for the resort to bid for the next available Ryder Cup in 2022.
The biennial match between the best players from the United States and Europe is one of the most prestigious events on the world’s sporting calendar.
