Aberdeen City Council’s leader has warned that the cost of demolishing its former headquarters could hit frontline services.
Councillors voted to spend £2million to tear down St Nicholas House before putting the cleared site on the market for development.
Opposition Labour members backed Liberal Democrat and deputy council leader John Stewart’s call to knock down the 60s tower at the earliest opportunity.
The SNP group, backed by chief executive Valerie Watts, wanted to test the market value of the site before demolition, but lost a vote 22-19.
