Rail bosses are risking lives, says north MSP

Network Rail was yesterday accused of risking lives by delaying the installation of barriers at ungated level crossings in the Highlands for at least three years.

Safety campaigners have urged the company to accelerate its upgrade plans before more people are killed or injured on open crossings.

A recent report by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) said barriers should be installed at 32 UK crossings considered particularly dangerous – including 13 in the Highlands.
