Expert blasts ferry policy

A proposed ferry-fare discount scheme for hauliers in the Western Isles has been dismissed as “economically illiterate” by an industry expert.

Strathclyde University business economic professor Neil Kay said Scottish Government policy to exclude large commercial vehicles from the road equivalent tariff was also “incoherent and frankly incompetent”.

His remarks were seized on by the Outer Hebrides Transport Group which will press for the proposal to be dropped when they meet Transport Minister Keith Brown next week.
