Nicol looking for vintage performance

Aberdeen’s Les Nicol hopes to get his birthday celebrations off to an early start when he lines up as one of the oldest runners in the Scottish masters cross-country championships at Kilmarnock tomorrow.

The Metro club member will compete in the over-75 age group 6.5km race and he’s determined to come home with a medal.

He said: “It’s my 76th birthday on Sunday, the day after the race, so it would be good to do well on Saturday. There’s a few good guys in my age group, so it’s difficult to know how it might go, but I’d like to get a medal.”
