Salmond signals early start on Bannockburn’s big year

Construction will start this summer on a visitor centre at the site of the Battle of Bannockburn to mark its 700th anniversary.

First Minister Alex Salmond said the funding needed to begin the work was in place and construction, including landscaping, would start early in the summer.

Bannockburn, fought in 1314, is one of the most significant battles in Scottish history, with Robert the Bruce defeating the forces of English King Edward II.
