Report reveals higher tree total

Britain’s forests have an estimated 311million tonnes of standing coniferous trees in them, according to a new report published yesterday by the Forestry Commission.

Publicly-owned forests account for about 195million tonnes, with the remainder in the private sector.

Scotland has by far the biggest volume at 196million tonnes of coniferous trees such as pine, spruce, larch and firs.
