Protest by meat inspectors

Vets and meat inspectors who went unpaid for two months yesterday took their protest to the Food Standards Agency amid allegations it had botched the handling of a contract.

More than 100 of them gathered outside its headquarters in London at an event staged by union Unison.

They had all worked for Grants Veterinary Services, which had provided inspection services for the FSA at many UK meat plants up to the start of April when its contract ended.
