Scouts mark link with totem pole

Scouts in the north-east yesterday marked an ongoing link with the scouting movement in North America – by unveiling a 27ft totem pole.

A celebration with traditional Canadian-style hospitality was held at the 1st Banchory Scout Group’s base in Dee Street to highlight a 22-year connection with scouts in Canada.

In the shadow of the towering totem pole, scouts served up pancakes and maple syrup and blueberry muffins, as a drumming session entertained scout group family and friends along with invited scouting officials.
