A Scottish council official received the biggest financial package of any local authority employee in the UK last year, according to a new study.

Ian Drummond, who was executive director of special projects for Glasgow City Council, topped the list for 2010-11 with £450,628, which includes pension contributions worth £199,073.

The list was drawn up by the Taxpayers’ Alliance in a report into each UK local authority. It found at least 3,097 council employees received total remuneration of over £100,000 in 2010-11 – a 13% rise on the previous year’s 2,696.
