Drinks battle over 50p unit

Clear battle lines have emerged with the long-awaited announcement of what the minimum price for alcohol will be.

Doctors, police, publicans and most opposition parities support the move.

However, shopkeepers, most drinks producers and Labour claim it will do nothing to change Scotland’s hard-drinking culture, will hit responsible drinkers in their pockets and is probably illegal under EU law.
