Cameron pledges famous names safe amid cost-cuts to regiments

Prime Minister David Cameron has pledged to “save” the famous names of Scotland’s threatened infantry regiments.

The Tory leader moved yesterday to end speculation that UK ministers planned to axe historic cap badges such as the Black Watch and the Highlanders.

He made it clear he remained “strongly” committed to retaining the names – while stressing that cost-cuts were required.
