New incentive to showcase Scottish food

Scottish tourism businesses can become “food champions” in a near-£1million scheme launched by Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead last night.

Food outlets, B&Bs, hotels and visitor attractions will all be eligible for accreditation, with the new quality standard then being offered to businesses meeting criteria to be set by a project steering group being set up for the purpose.

The scheme – a joint venture between the Scottish Government and tourism body VisitScotland – is expected to be up and running within six months.
