Warning to swimmers after student rescued

A STUDENT sparked a major rescue operation after swimming out to sea, prompting safety warnings from the emergency services.

And, as the region boasted the hottest temperatures in the country yesterday, a number of people had to be treated in hospital for sunburn and blisters.

Emergency services were alerted by “numerous” 999 calls when the 28-year-old man went into the sea at Oban, intending to swim the mile to Kerrera island.
