New superbug strikes patients at Raigmore

THREE people contracted a potentially deadly bug while being treated at the intensive care unit in the north’s flagship hospital.
NHS Highland confirmed that routine testing had identified the bacterium pseudomonas aeruginosa in three patients at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.
The intensive care unit (ICU) had to be shut for three days so it could be cleaned with hydrogen peroxide. Patients and staff had to be moved to another part of the building.
Last night, the health board was hoping to reopen the ICU.
