Village anger as seals found shot on beach

A SPATE of seal shootings has prompted a row in a picturesque north-east village. Scores of grey seals are being killed off the coast of Gardenstown.

The shootings began last month as part of a licensed management programme by Montrose-based Usan Salmon Fisheries. A marksman in camouflage gear has been employed to patrol the shoreline and fire at any seals which could endanger the company’s nets.

Locals are angry that, in the past month, four seals have been found shot dead on the rocky shoreline, which is a popular destination for families and tourists.
