Time to think about succession

The need for early communication and the preparation of a clearly set-out succession plan was highlighted at the latest meeting of the Caithness monitor farm at Westfield, near Thurso.

Agricultural consultant Peter Cook said the issue was a long-time bugbear in the industry.

“Farmers continue to score badly in thinking ahead to the time when they have to hand over the running of their family holding,” he said.
