Highland plants wiped out

Scientists have issued a stark warning over the impact of climate change on Scotland’s landscapes.

New research shows the loss of some plant communities due to environmental change may be irrevers-ible, changing our mountainous areas for ever.

The study, funded by Scottish Natural Heritage and the Natural Environment Research Council, showed that climate change has strongly affected upland plants and vegetation in the north-west Highlands over the past half century.
