Rooney return papers over England weaknesses

Wayne Rooney marked his return from suspension by scoring the goal which took England into the quarter-finals of Euro 2012 with victory against co-hosts Ukraine in Donetsk.

The Manchester United forward converted a centre from England captain Steven Gerrard three minutes into the second half as Roy Hodgson’s side set up a last-eight meeting with Italy in Kiev.
