Opening door on Sir Walter’s life

The future of the 19th- century home of writer Sir Walter Scott has been awarded a £1million grant to help it remain open.

Abbotsford House, at Melrose in the Borders, has been awarded the money from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

The Abbotsford Trust, which runs the home, has now raised £11.8million of the £14.5million it believes is needed to secure its future.
