Anger as two more milk processors cut ex-farm prices
Farming unions in Scotland and England yesterday condemned two of Britain's biggest milk processors after they followed Robert Wiseman Dairies in cutting ex-farm prices for the second time in a month.
Arla and Dairy Crest dropped their farm-gate rates by 2p a litre (1.136p) and 1.65p (0.93p), respectively. Wiseman on Friday said it was chopping 1.7p (0.96p) from its price from August 1. All the processors had already reduced rates in May or June.
NFU England dairy board chairman Mansel Raymond said: “This price slash comes at the expense of the average dairy farmer who is now making a significant loss for every litre they produce."
