Raigmore’s continuing debt

Raigmore Hospital is almost £2million in debt – just two months after it cleared a £4.4million overspend.

Members of the hospital’s governance committee expressed serious concern yesterday that they were being asked to “hold their nerve” that the books would be balanced by the end of the current financial year despite being given no assurances on how this will be done.

The hospital’s interim head of finance, Alison Rodgers, told the meeting the current overspend was £1.196million at the end of May.
