Scottish Open proves region has drive to be major player

First Minister Alex Salmond has hailed the Scottish Open as proof that the Highlands does not just have stunning scenery – but can also excel at hosting major events.

Last night the SNP leader urged golf fans across the north to take the chance to see some of the world’s best players in action and forecast a “fantastic spectacle” over the next two days. He also said the immediate impact on the Highland economy would be a £5million boost.

Meteorologist Craig Mroczka has predicted sunshine and rising temperatures for fans heading for the Castle Stuart links course today and tomorrow.
